USC Launches Family Business Initiative

Initiative to put on events and provide resources for family-owned businesses

USC's Marshall School of Business Executive Education has announced the launch of a new initiative focusing on family businesses.

The new Family Business Program "will address challenges, such as why fewer than 40 percent of these businesses transition successfully to the second generation, and fewer than 13 percent to the third," according to reporting by USC News.

Through the new program, USC will provide Los Angeles-area workshops and events to help representatives from family-owned businesses address these kinds of challenges. Upcoming events will cover topics on how to prepare to enter a family-run business, family business governance, and the founder's role in a family business, among others.

The first event, the Family Business Forum, will take place on October 8, and will be open to the public. It will address the key issues needed to create a successful multi-generational business.
