Finance is the management of money and other accounts. This vast field generally refers to tasks and tools involved in handling monetary decisions. For business managers, finance decisions should always maximize shareholder value while controlling for risks. Often, this is easier said than done, as managers must weigh a variety of factors when making finance decisions, such as a firm’s capital and labor structure and its long- and short-term goals. A burgeoning, related field that seeks to understand how individuals make financial decisions is referred to as “behavioral finance.”
