The University of Virginia's Darden Business School annouced on Feb. 3 that it will expand its Executive MBA and Global Executive MBA programs to the Washington D.C. area, starting in August 2016.
Darden's EMBA and GEMBA program are currently structured as distance learning programs, with one module per month at Darden's main campus in Charlottesville, plus one international residency for EMBA candidates and four international residencies for GEMBA candidates. The new programs will follow the same format, except students will attend their monthly modules in Rosslyn, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington.
Officials say Darden decided to expand to D.C. to take advantage of the capital's myriad opportunities, both in terms of industry and ease of access.
"Washington, D.C. is a global gateway, where business and government intersect," says Scott Beardsley, Darden's dean, in a press release. "The new location's proximity to Union Station and the D.C.-area airports, and the once-a-month residencies from Friday to Sunday, make the program easily accessible to executives commuting in from most U.S. metropolitan areas or international gateway cities."
Darden joins schools such as Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business and Howard University Business School in offering EMBA programs in the D.C. metro area.
