MIT Sloan Launches Two New Executive Education Programs

Courses cover topics in communication, platform strategy

MIT Sloan Executive Education has announced that it will launch two new executive education courses beginning this summer. The courses are both two days long and cover topics in communication and platform-building strategy.

The first new program is called "Communication and Persuasion in the Digital Age," and promises to help executives become more persuasive over a broad swath of communication outlets, from speeches to video conferences. The course will leverage new cognitive research on how people learn to assist participants in speaking persuasively and adapting their messages to audiences, wherever they may be. The course is designed for virtually all people across a wide variety of functional business areas: "If your responsibilities include interacting in some shape or form with others, then this program is for you," says the course webpage.

Communication and Persuasion is set to launch on June 19th.

While some digital platforms, like Apple's iTunes, have well-understood models, there's an emerging class of new platforms that are exploring new ways to create value. MIT Sloan's other new program is called "Platform Strategy: Building and Thriving in a Vibrant Ecosystem," and is designed to help participants consider new platform strategies. Through case studies and discussions, the two-day program will explore topics like the "Economics of Platform Competition," platform pricing, and "Platform Thinking for the Non-Platform Business." The program is designed for leaders whose responsibilities include marketing, business development, R&D, and content management, among others. It will leverage insight research into startups that have developed in the MIT ecosystem to provide insight into "strategic thinking and tools beyond what is found in most traditional approaches to enterprise and product strategy," according to the program webpage.

"Platform Strategy: Building and Thriving in a Vibrant Ecosystem" will launch on June 23rd.
